YouTubers buy ‘scariest shark they’ve owned’ from ‘sketchy website’ to see what would turn up

The shark turned out to be alive when it arrived, so that’s a good start

You can order all sorts of stuff off the internet, whether it actually shows up is another matter entirely.

If you have the money, the inclination and the right location, then you can even do something is ridiculous as buying an actual shark and having it delivered to you.

That’s what YouTubers The Fish Guys did, and frankly with a name like that, it does seem like a rather on-brand thing for them to do to purchase a shark.

However, they specifically picked out a ‘super sketchy website’ and figured they’d have a ’50-50 chance’ that their terror of the seas would actually end up arriving.

In the past, they’ve ordered other aquatic creatures which ended up being dead on arrival, so it was just a matter of crossing their fingers and hoping the shark would still be alive.

Things already looked pretty bad when they heard the plane the shark was in got delayed for nearly five hours, and problems with transit can mean the difference between life and death for the poor animals.

Fortunately, the shark-infested package did show up but the guys got worried when they didn’t feel any movement from inside, but when they opened up the package, they discovered that there really was a shark inside and it started moving.

When they ordered the shark, they thought they were getting one 15 inches long, but The Fish Guys were pretty convinced it was actually quite a bit bigger than that.

They then plonked him into a mini-pond to avoid startling him by immediately sticking him into their big pond, and he seemed to start swimming around a bit more once he was aware he had more water to work with.

After a while, they decided to move their new horn shark into their bigger tank, and he seemed to grow accustomed to his new home quickly enough.

In the days following it, the shark explored the confines of the pond and it was time to figure out whether or not it’d take food.

Sadly, they tried feeding the shark shrimp, fish and squid but it wasn’t going for any of the options on the menu.

While it’s been a bit of a mixed bag for the shark in his early days with the YouTubers, they promised to provide further updates on their channel when more things happened.

Here’s hoping the shark is doing alright as we await the update on how this shark bought from a sketchy website is doing.

Of course, you should always be careful when dealing with sharks as they might end up launching an attack if you take them for granted, like the case of the pregnant tiger shark in an aquarium which attacked a vet who’d got into her tank to check her health.

Tragic reason you'll never see a great white shark in an aquarium

Tragic reason you’ll never see a great white shark in an aquarium

There are many creatures which would be better off in the open sea, including great white sharks

However, many of these places can be pretty controversial because they contain creatures which campaigners say shouldn’t be kept in captivity.

Some of these titanic creatures spend their entire lives in captivity, kept in tanks that cannot hold a candle to the vastness of the open ocean.

It can take great effort to get the animals released, and even in instances where a campaign is successful some of them die before they can be freed.

Still, you’ll see all sorts of sea life in an aquarium but one thing you aren’t likely to see is a great white shark.

They’ve been held in captivity in the past, but the reason why it’s not done now is because it’s pretty much never worked for any meaningful length of time.

Only the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California has successfully displayed a great white shark, as in other attempts the fish have died after a matter of days in captivity.

Even in the one case it was successful the longest they managed was to keep one of their six for 198 days before bringing an end to it.

In the end it was too costly to keep a great white shark, even one which had managed to get over the initial hurdle of dying within the first few days like the others of its kind.

According to Vox, the animals developed injuries in their tank, and sometimes killed other animals that were part of the aquarium’s exhibits as the sharks became increasingly aggressive in captivity.

All in all trying to keep a great white shark in an aquarium has just been a recipe for high costs and a dead shark.

They grow too big, are difficult to feed and they need space to move.

indy100 reports that while other marine life can use their gills to get oxygen from the water with their mouth closed, the great while shark needs to have the mouth open.

This means any environment where their movements are restricted makes it harder for them to breathe properly, while they’re also used to swimming long distances and putting them in a small tank where they can do nothing of the sort is highly distressing for them.

Basically, it’s just nothing close to a suitable environment for them.
